Celebrating 40 years of innovation
In July 2024, Tzannes launched the first monograph on the work of the practice covering 40 years of practice. Edited and co-written by Paola Favaro and Robert Freestone, published by Thames and Hudson, the monograph is titled Tzannes: Adaptive Urban Architecture and Design. The monograph is a collection of thoughtful perspectives based on rigorous research by sixteen authors curated into themes by the co-editors. A Foreword by Peter Poulet and Afterword by Amy Dowse and overarching acknowledgement of Country by Christian Hampson completes the text. The themes are augmented by a wide selection of architectural drawings, diagrams, sketches and photographs of selected projects that richly illustrate four decades of design in the disciplines of architecture, interior architecture, urban design and industrial design.
“The development and diversification of Tzannes’ architecture into a compelling urban project has mirrored the city’s transformation since the late 1970s from its premier position among Australian capital cities into a global metropolis”
Robert Freestone
We thank Thames and Hudson, the UNSW School of Built Environment, and Paola Favaro and Robert Freestone in particular for initiating the concept of the monograph and ensuring high quality, independent, evidence-based research is behind the themes. Chapters and project analyses were written by Andrew Andersons, Colin Bisset, Luciano Cardellicchio, Sing D’Arcy, Oya Demirbilek, Alanya Drummond, Paola Favaro, Cristina Garduño Freeman, Robert Freestone, Christian Hampson, Peter Kohane, Ainslie Murray, Philip Oldfield, Raffaele Pernice, Nicola Pullan, and Mark Stiles.
“Driven by powerful economic, technological, cultural and environmental forces, that narrative is exemplified by a series of hotspots in which Tzannes has been directly involved.”
Robert Freestone
