Fort Denison

Sydney Harbour NSW

The conservation and adaptive re-use of Fort Denison created a landmark museum and a restaurant within Sydney Harbour to allow visitors to experience aspects of the rich history of Sydney.

Following a Conservation Plan commissioned by the client, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Tzannes has been commissioned as architects for the conservation and adaptive re-use of the Fort. The works included the construction of a commercial kitchen and dining room, new sanitary facilities, interpretation areas, administrative offices, a function marquee, reconstruction of the terrace, new lighting and electrical services and conservation of the timber, stone and metal fabric of the building.

The island is accessible to the public and has a continual source of income that assists with the ongoing conservation and maintenance of the Fort.
