Federation Drive
Centennial Park NSW
The creation of a symbolic gateway and place to commemorate the centenary of Federation in Australia was the subject of a design competition.
The public space involved the restoration and adaptation of approximately 400 meters of historic landscape in the form of the Grand Drive. A ceremonial plaza and gateway (46 metres wide and 9 metres deep and 8 metres high) to mark the entry to Centennial and Moore Park with provision for the street furniture, integrated lighting, horse traffic, pedestrian safety improvements and a shared traffic area. The new Federation Drive provides a focus for the parklands and a place for gatherings and ceremonies.
