Gungahlin Town Centre

Canberra, ACT

Over several years, Tzannes played a key role in the design of Canberra’s new town of Gungahlin. Working within a large multidisciplinary team, Tzannes provided intellectual leadership in urban design and executed the layout of the Town Centre and surrounding suburbs, providing control documents for the parks, streets and subdivision of the land and buildings.

The design established a series of scales for the development – regional, neighbourhood, local and general – and these scales defined a number of the strategic tools implemented in the design – Landscape elements (integrating existing features and topography), street and circulation structure and finally community use and land structures. Detailed regulations were established for each building and block type to define the built form network.
