This project is a weekender for a family who had been using an existing house on the site for 10 years. The new house has been designed to take advantage of the steeply sloping site and its access to the ocean, and to regain the owners views of the beach and lagoon that had been built out over a number of years.
The two storey, steel framed, house is situated between two streets. Fundamental to the design was providing a link between the higher and lower side of the site that engaged with the house itself. This was resolved architecturally by creating a void in the centre of the house that the path passed through. The void brings light to the lower deck areas and provides a link to all the functional areas of the home.
